Asia Pacific led growth with a 6.6% increase in passenger numbers during the period, followed by Africa (5.5%) and non-EU Europe (2.6%), according to a report by the west London airport.
In August alone, London Heathrow handled 7.8 million passengers, a 2.1% year-on-year dip.

"Despite some big challenges across aviation this season, passengers consistently had smooth journeys, with 98% waiting less than five minutes at security and 98% seeing bags depart as planned, helping retain the title of Europe's most punctual hub," the airport said.
Heathrow's two runways are operating close to full capacity as the airport seeks government approval for a third runway, The Guardian reported.
Its £33 billion (US$38 billion) expansion plan would allow it to handle up to 150 million passengers annually.
The airport said the project would provide the infrastructure needed to keep the U.K. competitive and support economic growth.
The west London airport recorded 79 million international passengers last year, up 1% year-on-year.
