Southeast Asia's largest airport upgrades e-hailing pick-up facilities at Terminal 1

Malaysia Airports, which runs the airport, said the enhancements include a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system integrated with a Passenger Information Display System (PIDS), self-service kiosks, dedicated waiting lounges, designated pick-up bays and on-site marshals, The Star newspaper reported.

The airport operator said the new system will improve monitoring and access control, helping curb illegal e-hailing activities by ensuring only authorized vehicles can use the designated pick-up area, Business Today reported.

The upgrades are part of the airport's ongoing efforts to enhance the passenger experience, improve traffic management and boost operational efficiency amid a boom in foreign arrivals.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Southeast Asia's largest airport by land area, served 23.4 million international passengers in the first half of this year, up 7.8% from a year earlier, driven by expansion of new direct routes.

Total passenger movements grew 5.4% year on year to 31.7 million.

Malaysia retained its position as Southeast Asia's most-visited country after recording 21.12 million international visitor arrivals in the first half of 2026, a 2.5% increase from a year earlier.
