Germany's national flag carrier Lufthansa Airlines would operate at the airport's Terminal 1 in October, Malay Mail reported.

"We are expecting four international airlines including Lufthansa from now until the end of the year. We will announce the details of the airlines soon," Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani, managing director of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, told Bernama.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the largest in Southeast Asia by land area, served 36.7 million passengers in the first seven months of this year, up 3.4% year-on-year, driven by summer travel demand from Europe, the Middle East and parts of Asia.

Tourism has emerged as a bright spot for Malaysia this year, with the country recording 21.12 million international visitor arrivals in the first half of 2026, up 2.5% year-on-year and the highest figure in Southeast Asia.
