The route, operated by Air Canada's Boeing 787-9 aircraft, will be suspended after Jan. 26, 2027 due to commercial reasons, The Straits Times reported citing a spokeswoman for the Canadian flag carrier.

With the route's suspension, travelers heading to Canada will need to make at least one stopover, such as in Hong Kong or the U.S.

The nonstop service was launched in April 2024, six months after Singapore Airlines ended flights between Singapore and Vancouver following a review of its network.

Currently, Air Canada operates the 12,818 km non-stop service up to five times a week, making it the airline's longest flight by distance, according to Mainly Miles.

The flight time from Singapore to Vancouver is about 14 hours, while the return journey takes about 16 hours and 45 minutes.

The spokeswoman said economic factors affecting the route include commercial demand and its ultra-long distance.

Changi Airport Group said in a statement on Sept. 23 that it has been informed by Air Canada of its decision to suspend its Vancouver-Singapore service.

The group said that over the past year, Air Canada carried about 9% of Changi's traffic to North America.

Indonesia AirAsia, an Indonesian low-cost airline, also suspended its daily route from Jakarta to Singapore starting from July 1, Channel News Asia reported.
