Idzes was forced to leave the pitch in the 80th minute during Sassuolo's 3-2 victory over Juventus on Sept. 13. Medical examinations revealed a tear in his left thigh muscle, an injury requiring a month of recovery.

This means Idzes will be unable to join Indonesia for the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup, which the country is hosting from Sept. 25 to Oct. 5.

Bola reported that finding a replacement for Idzes in Indonesia's backline will be "extremely difficult". The outlet noted that the center-back has played 18 matches for the national team, scoring one goal and establishing himself as an irreplaceable player next to Kevin Diks.

Born in the Netherlands in 2000, Idzes has Indonesian blood through his grandmother. He officially became an Indonesian citizen in December 2023 and began representing the national team in March 2024. He made an immediate impact by debuting in a 1-0 victory over Vietnam during the first leg of the 2026 World Cup second qualifying round at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium before scoring in the 3-0 return-leg win at My Dinh Stadium.

Idzes developed through the Dutch football system, starting with Eindhoven in the second tier before moving to Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles in 2021. After two impressive seasons in the Dutch top flight, Idzes moved to Venezia in Serie B, helping the Italian club earn promotion to Serie A for the 2024-2025 campaign. In August 2025, he transferred to Sassuolo for a fee of €8 million (US$9.1 million), signing a contract through 2029. Transfermarkt currently values the defender at €14 million.

To date, Idzes has made 127 appearances across the top-flight leagues of the Netherlands and Italy. He is highly rated for his passing ability, decision-making, and composure.

Despite his absence, Indonesia are expected to field a significantly stronger squad than the one in the 2026 ASEAN Cup, which concluded in August. The roster will feature around 10 mixed players currently playing in Europe, with notable names including Kevin Diks, Elkan Baggott, Justin Hubner, Ole Romeny, Nathan Tjoe-A-On, Joey Pelupessy and Miliano Jonathans.

Head coach John Herdman has promised that the team will give their best, following pressure from a disappointing group-stage exit in the previous ASEAN Cup that ended last month with Vietnam defending the title.

With home-field advantage and a strong squad, Indonesia are favored to top Group A against Singapore, Malaysia and Bangladesh. Regional rivals Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and Pakistan will compete in Group B.
