The 35-year-old winger was warming up with his PT Prachuap teammates at Tinsulanon Stadium during the halftime break of their clash against Pattani FC on Saturday.

As the players conducted a routine passing drill, the pitch roller suddenly entered the area where players were warming up. When Townsend tried to catch a pass, he accidentally stepped into the vehicle's path while moving backwards to attempt an aerial backheel flick.

The staff lost control of the pitch roller and struck his legs from behind, knocking him to the ground before passing over him and getting his left leg stuck under the vehicle, The Guardian reported.

Teammates immediately rushed to his aid as the driver stopped and moved the pitch roller aside, allowing the English player to escape.

Despite being run over, Townsend suffered only minor bruising and was able to continue playing.

He came on in the 93rd minute as a substitute, replacing Jesper Nyholm and only playing a minute, as PT Prachuap secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over Pattani. This win put Prachuap at 2nd in the league.

Townsend joined Prachuap this summer following a stint with Kanchanaburi Power, extending an overseas spell that began when he left English club Luton Town for Turkish side Antalyaspor in late 2024.

Last season, the veteran winger played 30 games for Kanchanaburi, recording 3 goals and 6 assists. After the team were relegated, he moved to Prachuap to stay in Thai League 1, The Telegraph reported.

A product of the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy, Townsend boasts a 17-year professional career featuring 291 Premier League appearances for Tottenham, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Everton.

He also earned 13 caps and scored three goals for the England national team between 2013 and 2016.
