A 53-year-old man reported the case to police on Wednesday, saying he was one of 15 colleagues who had pooled money to buy the Mark Six ticket for Saturday’s draw, Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post reported.

The 36-year-old colleague bought the ticket and held the account into which the winnings were paid, Mothership reported.

After the ticket won, he allegedly refused to divide the prize money equally among the group, triggering a dispute.

Sing Tao Daily reported that the man collected the winnings before taking leave from work. Three days later, he told his colleagues that he intended to keep HK$10 million for himself.

The group held a meeting on Wednesday evening to resolve the dispute.

The ticket buyer allegedly maintained during the roughly 30-minute discussion that he would not share the winnings.

Police confirmed on Sep. 11 that the ticket buyer had been arrested on suspicion of theft, and remained in custody.
