Vietnamese car owner fined $18,100 after AI cameras logs 96 violations

Phu Tho Province traffic police said on Aug. 13 they had penalized the 47-year-old owner, a resident of Xuan Lung Commune, after cameras along Nguyen Tat Thanh Street repeatedly caught his Hanoi-registered car. The street runs through the Viet Tri, Thanh Mieu and Van Phu wards.

The violations were logged on VNeTraffic, the national traffic database run by the Ministry of Public Security, with records running from Feb. 22 to July 30.

Most were speeding, at margins ranging from 5 kph over the limit to 35 kph over.

Officers identified three more violations when the man reported for questioning. His compulsory civil liability insurance had lapsed, and his car carried no valid technical safety and environmental inspection certificate.

He had also never registered the vehicle or obtained new plates after taking ownership.
