The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the decision on Friday, noting that the aid reflects the traditional friendship, solidarity, and mutual support between the two nations. The funds aim to assist the Nepalese government and its citizens in overcoming the severe fallout of the disaster.

The tragedy unfolded on the morning of Aug. 26, when a massive ice collapse on Nepal's Langtang Lirung Mountain, near the border with Tibet, triggered violent floodwaters. The torrent swept away entire communities, leaving widespread mud and debris across downstream regions.

Casualties across the Tibet-Nepal border region have surpassed 1,300, with more than 5,600 people still unaccounted for. The vast majority of the casualties and damage occurred in Nepal.

Vietnamese leaders had extended their condolences on Aug. 27 to their counterparts in both Nepal and China following the disaster.

Nepal now faces an immense reconstruction effort. Dharma Raj Upreti, director of Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, said Friday that authorities must rebuild approximately 20,000 homes in devastated zones.

The Nepalese government estimates it will need roughly $52.6 million over the initial four-month recovery phase to repair damaged roads, install emergency shelters, deliver safe drinking water, and restore basic electrical service.

Compounding the crisis, the United Nations launched an emergency appeal on Friday for $50 million to aid more than 84,000 displaced and affected residents across Nepal.
