In the message, posted by the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi on its Facebook and Instagram accounts on Tuesday, Trump said Vietnam's independence is a testament to the strength and resilience of its people and to "a legacy that continues to inspire the friendship our nations proudly share today."

The U.S. values its flourishing partnership with Vietnam, particularly through progress made under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and our shared commitment to peace, prosperity, and stability across the Indo-Pacific region, he added.

"We commend Vietnam's growing global leadership as a partner to the U.S., including its distinguished role as a founding member supporting the Board of Peace.

The president expressed his desire to build on this progress and "work together to ensure shared prosperity and security in the future. He wished Vietnam a year with "even greater success, peace, and prosperity."

Vietnam-U.S. relations were normalized in July 1995 and upgraded to a Comprehensive Partnership in July 2013, with leaders of the two countries making numerous high-level visits.

The two sides cooperate across a wide range of fields, from politics and diplomacy to the economy, education, science and technology, and defense and security.

In September 2023, Vietnam and the U.S. established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development.

In February, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam attended the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace on Gaza in Washington at Trump's invitation as a founding member country.
