Local authorities fined the developer of Temple Resort Danang VND224.5 million (US$8,620) on Monday for discharging polluted water onto the beach near East Sea Park, a popular stretch frequented by both tourists and locals.
The violations came to light after beachgoers in mid-April reported a foul odor and milky-white wastewater seeping across the sand. Investigators later traced the source to the resort, which had neglected to hire a licensed hazardous waste disposal service. The company was also found storing waste improperly and breaching food safety standards at its restaurant.

Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh signed off on the administrative penalty against Da Nang Coral Reef Dive Center, the company behind the resort.
Authorities have ordered the resort to urgently carry out corrective measures to prevent further environmental damage and bring operations in line with environmental and food safety laws.
