Nguyen Tat Thanh Street serves as the main corridor linking the southern part of the city with the downtown and has experienced chronic traffic congestion for years due to heavy traffic and delayed infrastructure expansion.
An underground commercial center is also planned for the Bach Dang Wharf area. Along Hoang Dieu Street, an underpass, parking facilities, and supporting infrastructure will also be constructed.
A key feature of the redevelopment is a pedestrian bridge spanning the section where Ben Nghe Canal meets the Saigon River. Designed in the shape of a ship's bow extending over the water, the bridge commemorates President Ho Chi Minh's journey to seek a path to national independence.
The Bach Dang Wharf area along Ton Duc Thang Street will continue to be enhanced with additional green parks, an expanded riverbank, upgraded embankments, docking platforms, observation decks, and supporting facilities.
A separate 720-meter pedestrian bridge crossing the Saigon River, linking Bach Dang Park with the Thu Thiem New Urban Area, is also under construction and is expected to become one of HCMC's new architectural landmarks.
