Barefoot tourist filmed shouting at Kuala Lumpur airport admitted to psychiatric ward

KLIA district police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Ravi Munusamy said officers were alerted at about 1:19 p.m. on Aug. 18, when the woman began shouting in Mandarin in the international departure hall of Terminal 1 and disturbed other passengers by running, singing and dancing.

Terminal security staff calmed her and brought her to the Terminal 1 police station, he said in a statement reported by Free Malaysia Today.

She was taken to Kajang Hospital and admitted to its psychiatric ward, where Ravi said she is in stable condition and remains under care.

Police do not believe she was under the influence of drugs, and Chinese-language daily China Press reported that the Chinese embassy in Malaysia has been notified.

Her travelling companion told officers she had forgotten to take medication prescribed by her doctor, according to Malay Mail.

The woman entered Malaysia on Aug. 6 as a tourist and had been booked on a return flight to China on Aug. 18, police said. She was waiting at a boarding gate when the episode began.

Footage posted to Reddit the same day shows her standing barefoot in the middle of the terminal, one arm raised, repeatedly asking in Mandarin whether Singapore and Japan will surrender.

The poster wrote that he was queuing to board a flight when he encountered her, and that she had been livestreaming on TikTok before a man who appeared to know her took her phone and tried to pull her away.

She kept shouting after losing the phone, he said, and airport staff removed her about 15 minutes later. Singapore news site Mothership reported that she had also demanded Malaysia's surrender.

Malaysian police have announced no case over the content of her remarks.
